Since NCPSO has been added to the Vendor list and given inside access to the facilities, we have talked to a lot of officers and given out a lot of information concerning Senate Resolution #34. This resolution was passed by the Virginia State Senate in the last session of the General Assembly and cause the Senate to establish a committee of five State Senators and four Citizen members to study the staffing levels and working conditions at the Department of Dorrections. It has been NCPSO'S position from the onset that the study could only be legitimate if it involved input with due consideration from the front line. This is what the Senate Committee is looking to do, hear from the front lines. The second meeting of the committee was held at the Greensville Correctional Center and we did hear from the front line. Several current Correctional Officers and Retirees testified before and were interveiwed by the Committee. They were from Greensville Correctional Center, Indian Creek Correctional Center, Deerfield Correctional Center and Wallen's Ridge Correctional Center. There was testimony all accross the entire unform spectrum, From Correctional Officer Senior to Correctional Sergant, to Correctional Lieutenant to a retired Correctional Security Cheif. There will be two more meetings of the Committee. Will your voice be heard, of will it be silent?
