Progress in 2016
Updated On: Oct 303, 2018
The 2016 General assembly session showed why correctional officers have to be engaged each and every session. Each year we move the needle a little further toward the goal of improving working conditions and salary structure for Virginia's uniformed Correctional Officers. The 2016 session saw the Correctional Officers Procedural Guarantee Act move further that any previous session. That bill now sits at the Crime Commission awaiting an opinion. We still have work to do to see this bill become law and entered into the Virginia Code, but the bill is still alive at this point. As of this article its still not clear if the 3 present increase will be delayed or will be given December 31, 2016. There is much hope that the progress we made will not be delayed, however, this is no time to let up on our efforts. NCPSO is now preparing for the 2017 session. As correctional officers you have the ability to move the needle even further toward our goal if you get involved, participate and show up. It is time to let your numbers speak. NCPSO gives a special thanks to the officers who came to The General Assembly in 2016 to help lobby for change. Continue to watch for updates and events, Then get involved and together lets secure a better future.
